Who likes to be SAD?

The holidays are over and now we have 3-4 more months of winter to look forward to. During this time most of us will be hit by SAD in one way or another. We all know that with the short days and lack of sunshine, the cold, and being cooped up all day long, winter can be a downer. We feel stuck or literally stagnated and when this happens, our liver qi often gets stagnated as well. Symptoms of liver qi stagnation are depression, anxiety, frustration, and anger.
One of the most beautiful things about Chinese medicine is that is great for moving qi. We might be literally stuck inside, but it is important to keep qi moving to keep us feeling happy. Along with upping your dose of vitamin d and staying active – indoors or out, Chinese medicine can help you avoid those winter blues.
Put down those melon balls!

Spring is almost here! The snow is melting revealing the dormant grass that lay beneath it. After this winter, brown grass never looked so good. But with spring comes spring allergies. For allergy sufferers, the end of winter and the start of spring isn't necessarily a time to look forward to. But, if you treat yourself right you can greatly reduce your symptoms and actually enjoy this time of year!
I always say it, food is medicine! What you eat affects you in some way. By avoiding certain foods, you can greatly reduce your symptoms. In an earlier blog, I mentioned a list of foods and I want to bring them up again. I think this is a good list:
Health maintenance
I grew up having acupuncture and herbs so Chinese Medicine was nothing new to me. I moved away from my old acupuncturist and ended up seeing Christine. I didn't really have anything wrong, I was just going for health maintenance and to boost my immunity for preparation of the cold and flu season. Not only did I survive the winter without getting sick, but my digestion and energy improved drastically. I continue to see Christine for health maintenance and relaxation. I look forward to it!
